Crock Pot Lava Cake - A Decadent Chocolate Indulgence!
Crock Pot Cake - Delicious and Easy
As you might now, I'm a recovering Crock Pot addict. Just putting that out there; a disclaimer of sorts. After a near mutiny incident some years ago, my family made me choose: the crock pot or them. Although I thought their actions were a tab bit dramatic, I got the point.
With that said, there is one Crock Pot recipe that I refuse to let go of - the Lava Cake. About once a month the Lava Cake calls my name and I am powerless. Old faithful comes out and the Crock Pot dance begins.....
Ingredients
1 package chocolate cake mix
1 package (4 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup (8 oz) light sour cream
4 eggs
1 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
Vanilla Ice Cream
Step-By-Step Directions
1. Spray inside of your Crock Pot with cooking spray
2. Combine all dry ingredients (cake mix, instant pudding, chocolate chips)
3. Combine all wet ingredients in separate mixing bowl (sour cream, water, eggs, oil)
4. Combine wet and dry ingredients - mix well with spoon (do not use electric mixer) - mix will be thick
5. Spoon ingredients into Crock Pot
6. Cook on low for 3 hours. I have a larger Crock Pot (see picture,) so you will need to adjust time slightly according to Crock Pot size. I've tried reducing the cooking time by cooking on HIGH for part of the cooking time, but haven't had much luck - the bottom and sides overcooked!
7. Scoop Lava Cake out with spoon and serve hot over vanilla ice cream!
Serving Up Deliciousness!
I let the cake sit for about 10 minutes and then serve warm over vanilla ice cream. The football strawberry was added to celebrate today's Super Bowl game. I'll bring the Lava Cake to our Super Bowl party later today where I'm sure it will be a guaranteed "touchdown"!
Enjoy!
Comments Are Appreciated!
You should give it a try! It's always fun to try crazy things in the Crock Pot! Let me know how it turns out!
Clear instructions and great photos!
I just happened upon this Hub...very fortunate since my kids want to make a lava cake for a project. I am so excited about finding this. Thanks for sharing your recipe. Bookmarking, voting up and sharing! (PS - I'm addicted to my crock pot too!)
Rebecca, thanks for the comment! My kids thought I was weird taking pictures of the ingredients, etc. I love seeing the pictures others place in their hubs and think it really adds to the hub - especially with a recipe! Thanks for visiting!
LABrashear - thank you for happening upon my hub! I named the cake, "Lava Cake" because it's so moist. I'm not sure how you could tweak this recipe to make it look more like an actual volcano, but that would be really cool. Please let me know what you come up with.
This sounds wonderful! I have never made a cake in my crock pot before, this will be a first! I was looking for a good cake recipe and this looks soooo good! I really like your presentation with the pictures. Voted up and awesome! Have a yummy day! :)

I love my crock pot, but I haven't tried making many desserts in it. This makes me want to try!
